The Venue
In 1703 the Venetian Republic gave three brothers of the Marchi family permission to raise a defensive tower on the western tip of Šolta, against the Ottoman galleys and the pirates who worked these islands. The castle they finished in 1708 never became famous for a battle; it became the reason Maslinica exists. Today it is a nine-suite heritage hotel taken whole for weddings — a lit tower above a courtyard pool at blue hour, a two-level Mediterranean garden, a vaulted wine cellar, a restaurant at the water's edge, and a marina directly beneath the walls, so the guests who want to can simply arrive by sea.
